Understanding Mesothelioma

Asbestos-related Diseases

Mesothelioma—a cancer of the cells that make up the lining around the outside of the lungs—is the most serious disease caused by asbestos exposure. But it’s by no means the only disease that can be linked to asbestos exposure.

Lung Cancer, Esophageal Cancer, Laryngeal Cancer, Gastric Cancer and Colon Cancer are all cancers that occur following the inhalation or ingestion of asbestos. Asbestos that is breathed or swallowed finds its way into all these organs and can result in the development of cancer in those organs.

Pulmonary Asbestosis is a non-cancerous condition which results in scarring of the lung tissue that causes severe breathing problems, including shortness of breath.

Pleural Disease is a non-cancerous condition which results in the formation of plaques on the lungs or thickening of the lining around the outside of the lungs.

Very often where, when and how someone’s exposure occurred is not easy to determine and the assistance of attorneys experienced in asbestos litigation are needed to identify the exposures that have resulted in a diagnosis of mesothelioma.
